Understanding the Bowl

The course begins with the foundations of bowl turning. You'll explore wood selection, grain direction, mounting methods and the decisions that influence the final shape before the first cut is made.

Shaping & Refining the Form

Time at the lathe allows you to practise bowl gouge techniques, improve your cuts and develop smoother movements. Josef guides you through shaping the curve, controlling the thickness and creating a balanced form.

Thin Edges & Final Details

The final stage focuses on refinement. You'll work on delicate edges, surface quality and finishing while learning how careful tool control creates lighter, more elegant bowls.

Course Schedule

The course takes place over two days, with four-hour sessions available from 10:00 to 14:00 or 17:00 to 21:00. If another schedule suits your visit better, contact us and we’ll arrange the best option whenever possible.

What to Bring

You are welcome to bring your own turning tools if you’d like to work with them during the course. The workshop provides all necessary equipment, including sharpening tools and materials.

Do I need previous woodturning experience?

Yes. This module is designed for students who already understand basic lathe operation and turning techniques. Previous experience allows you to focus fully on bowl shaping and refinement.

Can beginners join this course?

If you are completely new to woodturning, we recommend starting with an introductory workshop first. This module focuses on techniques that require previous experience with the lathe.

Do I need my own bowl gouges?

No. The workshop provides the tools needed for the course. If you have your own gouges, you are welcome to bring them and Josef can help you improve your sharpening and setup.

Will I learn how to sharpen my tools?

Yes. Correct sharpening is an important part of bowl turning, and Josef will show you how to prepare your tools for cleaner cuts and better control.

Can I choose morning or evening sessions?

Yes. Sessions are normally available from 10:00 to 14:00 or 17:00 to 21:00. If you need a different arrangement, contact us before booking.

Can I work on my own bowl project?

Yes. If you have a specific project or technique you want to explore, Josef can guide you through the process and help you improve your approach.

Can I reschedule my course dates?
