Every custom wooden bowl begins with a structural analysis of the timber. Our engineering background allows us to push the boundaries of what is possible, creating exceptionally thin walls or stabilizing large-scale centerpieces that would challenge traditional makers.

When you commission a custom olive wood bowl from our Archanes studio, you are not just choosing a size; you are selecting a piece of Cretan history. We source rare logs, seasoned for up to 36 months, to ensure your bespoke piece remains stable and beautiful for generations.

Common Questions

Is the price provided by the calculator final?

The price generated is an initial estimate based on the volume of raw Cretan timber required for your dimensions. Because every log is unique, the final quote may vary slightly depending on the rarity of the wood grain, the complexity of the edge (e.g., natural bark vs. turned), and specific structural requirements identified during our design consultation.

What happens after I submit my quote request?

Once you click “Discuss this Project,” Josef will receive your dimensions and specific requirements. Within 24–48 hours, he will contact you personally to refine the design details, confirm wood availability from our seasoned stock, and provide you with a formal quote and an Estimated Time of Delivery (ETD).

How long does it take to craft a custom olive wood bowl?

Bespoke commissions usually require 3 to 8 weeks to complete. This timeline depends on the current seasoning state of the wood and the complexity of the piece. Hand-turning olive wood is a slow process that requires multiple stages of drying and finishing with extra virgin olive oil to ensure the wood remains stable and crack-free for generations.

Can I choose a specific piece of wood or grain pattern?

Yes. As part of our engineering-led process, we can provide photos of the raw logs currently available in our Archanes workshop. You can select the specific piece of Cretan Olive, Walnut, or Carob wood that speaks to you, allowing you to have a say in the “soul” of the final masterpiece.

Do you ship these custom pieces internationally?

Absolutely. We ship our custom creations to collectors worldwide. For bespoke items, especially larger centerpieces, we use custom-built wooden crates and fully insured courier services. Shipping costs are calculated separately based on the final weight and your global location.

Can the calculator handle non-circular shapes?

The current calculator is optimized for standard bowl geometries (Diameter x Height). If you are looking for an elliptical vessel, a square-edge sculpture, or a highly asymmetrical piece, please use the contact form to share your vision. Our engineering background allows us to draft and execute highly complex custom shapes that go beyond standard dimensions.

Is there a minimum or maximum size for custom commissions?

Due to the artisanal setup of our lathes and the nature of Cretan timber, we have a minimum order value of €45. For large-scale projects, we can turn pieces up to 80cm in diameter. If your project exceeds these dimensions, it may require a multi-part construction, which we would be happy to discuss during your consultation.
